Before you start

You need admin access to a DrayTek Vigor router and a BulkSMS account with credits.

Vigor routers have built-in BulkSMS profiles, but some of these use old BulkSMS addresses that no longer work. Use the custom provider below instead.

Add BulkSMS as a custom SMS provider

In the router's web interface, go to Objects Setting > SMS / Mail Service Object and edit a Custom provider (index 9 or 10).

Set the protocol to HTTPS and enter this URL, replacing the username and password with your BulkSMS login:

https://api-legacy1.bulksms.com/eapi/submission/send_sms/2/2.0?username=YOUR_USERNAME&password=YOUR_PASSWORD&msisdn=###txtDest###&message=###txtMsg###

Leave the router's own Username, Password and Server Response fields blank, because the login is in the URL.

Set a Quota (the most messages the router may send) and save.

Avoid special characters in the password used here, as they can break the URL.

Use it for alerts or hotspot logins

Alerts: go to Applications > SMS / Mail Alert Service, choose the BulkSMS provider, enter the mobile number to alert in international format, and pick the events.

Hotspot logins: go to Hotspot Web Portal > Profile Setup, choose PIN Code Login, and select the BulkSMS provider to send PIN codes to guests.

Send a test message to check it works.

Troubleshooting

Nothing is sent: check the username and password in the URL, that the quota hasn't run out, and that your account has credits.

A built-in BulkSMS profile stopped working: switch to the custom provider above.

You can see every message and its delivery status under Sent Messages in BulkSMS.

All setup and ready to go!
