Choose how to connect

There are three ways to send SMS from Dynamics 365 with BulkSMS. Pick the one that fits how you want to send:

Option Best for What you need
BulkSMS Integration Gateway Bulk SMS campaigns to Dynamics 365 Contact and Lead lists, with templates and personalisation. A BulkSMS account. No extra licences.
Power Automate Automatic messages when something happens in Dynamics 365, such as a new lead or a changed record. A BulkSMS account and a Power Automate Premium licence.
ClickDimensions SMS as part of ClickDimensions marketing campaigns and automations. A paid BulkSMS account and ClickDimensions.

Create the integration

Log in to the BulkSMS Integration Gateway with your BulkSMS account.

Click Create New Integration, enter a name, choose Dynamics365 as the app and click Create.

Your new integration appears on the home page. Click Settings to connect it to Dynamics 365.

Connect your Dynamics 365 account

Under Connection Details, enter your CRM Instance URL. This is the address you use to open Dynamics 365, for example https://yourcompany.crm.dynamics.com.

Click Authenticate and sign in to Microsoft with a Dynamics 365 account. This connects the Integration Gateway and installs the BulkSMS app in your Dynamics 365 environment.

Set your Default Country Code (for example 44), which is added to numbers that don't have one. Tick Force Country Code if every number should use it.

Enter a Notification Email, then click Save Settings.

Create message templates (optional)

On the home page, click Message Templates for your integration, then Create New Template.

Enter a Descriptor (a short name with letters and numbers only), choose a Sender Address and default Country Code, and write the Template Body.

Use Tokens to personalise messages with Contact or Lead fields, such as first name, company name or city. For example: Hi [[firstname]], thanks for visiting our stand!

Send a bulk message

On the home page, click Bulk Messages for your integration, then Prepare New Bulk Message.

Choose Contacts or Leads as the Destination Type, then pick the list to send to.

Choose a template or write your message, then click Continue. The message isn't sent yet.

Click preview sample to check how the message looks for up to 100 recipients, then click Send Message and confirm.

Sent messages move to the Sent Messages tab, where you can see delivery details and a submission summary.

About the BulkSMS connector

The BulkSMS connector adds a Send SMS Message action to Power Automate. Use it with the Microsoft Dataverse connector to send an SMS when something happens in Dynamics 365.

It's a Premium connector, so you need a Power Automate Premium licence. It's also available in Power Apps, Copilot Studio and Logic Apps.

Each connection can make up to 100 calls a minute. For large bulk sends, use the Integration Gateway instead.

Create a BulkSMS API token

Log in to your BulkSMS account and go to Settings > Developers.

Click Create API Token and give it a name you'll recognise, for example Power Automate.

Copy the Token ID and Token Secret and keep them somewhere safe. The secret is only shown once.

Build the flow

In Power Automate, create an Automated cloud flow.

For the trigger, choose the Microsoft Dataverse trigger When a row is added, modified or deleted, and pick the table, such as Leads or Contacts.

Add a new step, search for BulkSMS and choose Send SMS Message.

When asked to create a connection, enter:

  • BulkSMS Account Username: your BulkSMS Token ID
  • BulkSMS Account Password: your BulkSMS Token Secret

The connection isn't shared. If you share the flow or app, each person creates their own connection.

Fill in the Send SMS Message action

Field Required What to enter
to Yes The recipient's number in international format. Usually dynamic content from the trigger, such as the row's Mobile Phone.
body Yes The message text. Insert dynamic content, such as the first name, to personalise it.
Auto-Unicode Yes Set to Yes so messages with emoji or accented characters are sent as Unicode and arrive correctly.
longMessageMaxParts Yes The most parts a long message can be split into. Each part is charged separately, so this caps the cost of one message, for example 3.
from No Who the message appears to come from. Leave it blank to use your account's default.

Save the flow, then test it by adding or changing a record in Dynamics 365 with your own mobile number.

Troubleshooting

Integration Gateway won't authenticate: check the CRM Instance URL, and sign in with a Microsoft account that has access to that Dynamics 365 environment.

The Power Automate connection fails: check that you entered the Token ID as the username and the Token Secret as the password, and that the token hasn't been revoked.

Messages aren't delivered: check that numbers are in international format, or that a default country code is set, and that your BulkSMS account has enough credits.

You can see every message and its delivery status in your BulkSMS account under Sent Messages, and each flow run under Run history in Power Automate.

All setup and ready to go!
