Before you start

You need admin access to Splynx and a BulkSMS account. Buy credits at least once before sending.

Splynx connects to BulkSMS with its generic HTTP SMS gateway, so you'll enter the BulkSMS API address and message format yourself.

Create a BulkSMS API token

Log in to your BulkSMS account and go to Settings > Developers.

Click Create API Token and give it a name, for example Splynx. Copy the Token ID and Token Secret. The secret is only shown once.

Splynx needs these as a Basic authentication header. Join them with a colon (TokenID:TokenSecret) and Base64-encode the result, for example with an online Base64 encoder or PowerShell:

[Convert]::ToBase64String([Text.Encoding]::UTF8.GetBytes("TokenID:TokenSecret"))

To send from a name instead of a number, request a Sender ID in BulkSMS first.

Configure the SMS gateway in Splynx

In Splynx, go to Config > Main > SMS and fill in the main section:

Setting Value
Gateway URL https://api.bulksms.com/v1/messages
Method POST
Content type application/json
Custom header Authorization: Basic followed by your Base64 value

Set the payload. Splynx replaces %TO% and %MESSAGE% with the number and text:

{"from": "YourSenderID", "to": "%TO%", "body": "%MESSAGE%"}

Leave out "from" to use your BulkSMS account's default sender. Phone numbers should be in international format, with a leading +.

Test the connection

Optionally fill in the Check SMS balance section so Splynx can show your BulkSMS credit.

In the test section, enter your own mobile number and click Run test.

Check the message arrives, and see its status under Sent Messages in BulkSMS.

Troubleshooting

401 Unauthorized: the Base64 value is wrong. Re-encode TokenID:TokenSecret and make sure the header reads Basic, a space, then the value.

400 Bad Request: check the payload is valid JSON, the content type is application/json, and numbers are in international format.

403 Forbidden: check your account has credits.

All setup and ready to go!
