Before you start

You need a WHMCS installation and a BulkSMS account with credits.

The connection uses SMS Manager BulkSMS, a paid add-on from WHMCS Services. Buy it from the WHMCS Marketplace or WHMCS Services. Use the code BulkSMS for a discount.

Check the add-on's listing for the WHMCS and PHP versions it supports. It needs ionCube Loader, allow_url_fopen turned on, and WHMCS's international phone number input turned on.

Create a BulkSMS API token

Log in to your BulkSMS account and go to Settings > Developers.

Click Create API Token and give it a name, for example WHMCS. Copy the Token ID and Token Secret. The secret is only shown once.

The add-on accepts an API token or your BulkSMS username and password. We recommend the token.

Install and connect the add-on

Upload and activate the add-on in WHMCS, following WHMCS Services' installation instructions.

Open the add-on's settings and enter your BulkSMS token details and Sender ID.

Choose which events send an SMS and edit the message templates. For example: client registration and login, invoice created, paid or overdue, support ticket updates, and service or domain changes.

Send a test SMS to your own number.

More features

SMS two-factor authentication for clients and admins.

Mass SMS to clients, birthday messages, opt-out handling and safe sending times.

SMS alerts to admins, for example for new orders or tickets.

Troubleshooting

Messages aren't sent: check the BulkSMS details in the add-on, that clients' numbers include a country code, and that your account has credits.

You can see every message and its delivery status under Sent Messages in BulkSMS. For problems with the add-on itself, contact WHMCS Services.

All setup and ready to go!
