Making the Law Accessible to Everyone.

For over 30 years, the law has been at the centre of Henk Roelofse’s life. After spending 23 years as an advocate and 8 years as a judge in Mpumalanga, he saw the same problem again and again: most South Africans don’t have easy access to clear, reliable legal guidance.

Simple questions - What should I be careful of when buying a car? What happens if someone is arrested? How do I apply for bail? - often go unanswered, or worse, are answered incorrectly.

Determined to change that, he built Seekefy, a legal app designed to give everyone access to the law. Short, accurate answers. No legal jargon. No intimidation.

But accessibility came with a challenge. Every question asked through the app carried real costs, from infrastructure to API calls. Giving everything away for free wasn’t sustainable - yet charging too much would undermine the mission.

That’s where BulkSMS came in.

By integrating BulkSMS into the app, he created a simple, automated model. Users receive three free legal responses via SMS - enough to educate, guide, and build trust. From there, they’re directed to the website or app for deeper engagement through an affordable subscription.

The system runs entirely on its own. Messages are automated, reliable, and seamlessly integrated with AWS, allowing a single-person operation to scale without added complexity.

Today, BulkSMS helps power a platform that delivers accurate yet concise legal knowledge to people who would otherwise never have access to it - while keeping the business sustainable behind the scenes.

As Henk Roelofse puts it: “No society can be equal without equal access to the law.”

BulkSMS plays a quiet but critical role in making that access possible - one message at a time.
